Habit & Skin Health

Posted by on

Like gravity, it’s an inescapable fact of life. We are what we do. We all know it intuitively. We can even feel it. Regular practices - or habits - that are bad for us, drag us down whereas healthy habits lift us up. In either case, by definition habits are hard to give up. This is great news if you can build healthy practices into your life. They tend to stick. Pretty soon, you’ll actual want that lemon water at lunch instead of a Diet Coke.

The health and vibrance of our skin is particularly susceptible to our habits.

The power of habit is especially true when it comes to our wellness. The way we feel, our mood, our longevity and the way look are all directly connected to the good - or bad - practices that we build into our lives. The health and vibrance of our skin is particularly susceptible to our habits. Good genes and the best skin care products can only take you so far, inevitably our day-to-day lifestyle behaviors will catch-up to us. And, as we age the importance of healthy habits goes up exponentially. At 20 it may not seem connected but trust us, at 40+ it is. Directly.

We’ve identified the six most important daily practices that directly impact the health and appearance of your skin and how it ages over time.

Because of this, we believe you shouldn’t leave the health of your skin to chance. We’ve identified the six most important daily practices that directly impact the health and appearance of your skin and how it ages over time (and, not coincidentally, the same are true for your body and mind).

The six daily practices for naturally vibrant skin are:

  1. Eat Real Food: What food we eat (and don't eat)
  2. Moisturize: What we put on our skin
  3. Calm Your Mind: How we manage stress & anxiety
  4. Protect Your Sleep: How much we sleep
  5. Break a Sweat: How much we exercise
  6. Hydrate: How much water we drink

So, the question is, how do we kick bad habits to the curb and establish new ones that boost our skin health and overall wellness? And, how long does it take to create a new habit anyway?

From the first morning you decide to forego the McDonald's drive-thru for a green smoothie or the first evening you sit for a 10 minute meditation instead of scrolling Instagram before going to bed, you can expect a rocky road for 2 months before this new decision turns into habit. Or, to be more precise, according to James Clear it takes 66 days to turn a new behavior into habit with a range of 18 to 254 days depending on the person and the new habit.

You’ll emerge on the other end feeling and looking better than you ever have with more energy, increased ability to focus and your skin is going to glow.

We know, that’s a long time. But, it will be worth it. You’ll emerge on the other end feeling and looking better than you ever have with more energy, increased ability to focus and your skin is going to glow.

So, how do you get started?

  • Start slow and focus on one or two behavior changes at a time.
  • Be kind to yourself along the way, expect setbacks but don’t let them get you sidetracked.
  • Limit your expectation on improvements in wellness and skin health for at least 2 months.
  • Look for daily inspiration and support to keep you going.
  • Start now. Health and wellness follow action and action breeds habit.

Thank you for creating a beautifully crafted letter. It seems so personal, smart and generous. I will certainly visit the suppliers you have highlighted…who knew Montana sells lentils??!! Love it!
