Holiday Hydration

It’s here--the season of lights, love, giving and so many other things. Here in Bozeman, MT, snow blankets the ground and covers the mountains. Main Street has steadily become busier and busier as the town bustles about under giant Christmas decorations as everyone finishes their Christmas shopping. It seems as though the less days we have till Christmas, the more things we have on our to-do list. Sometimes, it is the nature of these kinds of situations that things that were once part of our daily routine get forgotten, including staying hydrated.

If you’ve ever been dehydrated you probably experienced both physical and visual differences in your body from groggy thinking to dry skin.

Hydration is incredibly important for good health; our body simply cannot function without it. If you’ve ever been dehydrated you probably experienced both physical and visual differences in your body from groggy thinking to dry skin. Water can often be the very simple solution to these things--the trick is to become mindful about drinking water. Check out our blog post The Many Benefits of Staying Hydrated to learn more about what water can do for you.

Especially around the holidays, it is crucial to think “water” when you think hydration. With so much family to visit, errands to run, and Christmas cards to write, we may find ourselves with an extra coffee on the go, a hot chocolate with the kids, or some hot apple cider once you’ve made it back home and are ready to cozy up. With all of these other things available for us to drink, our thirst does not always lead us to a glass of water, leading us to be more dehydrated than usual.

If we’re being real with ourselves though, there are few things less Christmassy than a plain glass of water which is why we suggest spicing it up just to make it a little more enticing.

If we’re being real with ourselves though, there are few things less Christmassy than a plain glass of water which is why we suggest spicing it up just to make it a little more enticing. It will taste delicious, look beautiful, and make you feel so much better! Fruit infused water is nothing new, but it’s certainly worth talking about. With numerous combinations of fruit comes numerous reasons to hydrate as well as numerous health benefits.

Lemon water is perhaps the most basic starting point. It’s easy to slice up a lemon and add it to your water. From here, you can add raspberries or blueberries, and mint. You could add lime and thyme. Perhaps add some orange. Lemons, along with some other fruits, are high in vitamin C which is not only good for your immune system, but also your skin health. The idea behind fruit infused water is that we will be more likely to drink it because it’s more flavorful and we will then be drinking more water than we normally do. All of the goodness we can squeeze out of fruit is definitely an added bonus!

The beautiful thing about this, is it’s almost as easy as pouring yourself a normal glass of water. Once you figure out which fruits you want to add to your water, all you have to do is slice them up, throw them in and let it sit for a couple of hours. Or, if you want to take this opportunity to be an artist, you can take your time discovering which fruit combinations yield the best taste and look the best. You can make it right in a glass or water bottle or make a big batch in a pitcher and leave it your fridge making it easily accessible and available for the whole family.
